Merely a half-century ago, cruel and unjust rules prevented interracial couples from marrying in 16 states. But those racists mandates had been overturned as a result of the energy of the real-life love tale that started in 1958. Mildred Jeter, a Ebony woman of African and Native American lineage, and Richard Loving, a white guy, came across within their hometown of Caroline County, Virginia, and dropped in love. But regrettably, legislation banning interracial wedding existed in a few statesвЂ”including their ownвЂ”preventing them from marrying legitimately.
