E-Sports Integrity Coalition Promises to Clean Up Competitive Gaming

The E-sports Integrity Coalition (ESIC) launched in the UK this week, a non-profit industry body with one dedicated mission: keeping E-sports clean.

ESIC said it aims to become recognized ‘the guardian of the integrity of E-Sports,’ with a particular emphasis on cheating, match-fixing and gray market gambling in competitive video gaming.

‘The Coalition takes responsibility for several types of the process, including drawing up rules, investigating breaches and then prosecuting people who flout them, while also trying to prevent such instances arising within the first place,’ explained ESIC in a press release.

‘To this end, ESIC is dealing with key stakeholders within the E-Sports community, from developers, publishers and players to broadcasters, wagering associations and league owners, to create an unified vision for what the rules should be, and how they should really be implemented.’

According to Korea Institute of Liberal Democracy Director Yu Dong-yeol, North Korea is running numerous online gambling websites that are catering to international nationals. The Liberal Democracy’s mission would be to promote freedom in North Korea.

Speaking at a defense security conference this week in Seoul, Dong-yeol unveiled that the North Koreans have made over $860 million running online video gaming websites and developing and software that is selling international overseas casino companies.

‘North Korea’s Reconnaissance General Bureau and departments relevant to IT operations run the websites,’ Dong-yeol ended up being quoted as saying.

South Korean Defense Security Command Chief Cho Hyun-chun included that North Korea now has some 6,800 hackers working to infiltrate foreign systems.
